DMU Exceeds Expectations During Testing
On August
27, 2002, the DMU began testing at the Transportation Technology
Center in Pueblo, Colorado. The regimen included over 1,000 miles
of shakedown runs, several laps at 90 mph, sprints up to 110 mph
and a full battery of rigorous testing. The DMU met or exceeded
test benchmarks for acceleration, braking, HVAC, and wayside/interior
sound levels. Also the DMU exceeded fuel efficiency expectations
dramatically by achieving two miles per gallon.
"It's
great to see an American manufacturer step up and develop
a DMU that meets the FRA and APTA standards," commented Bill Millar, president
of APTA, who attended the testing.
